Before work could even start I had to clear the garage, the workshop and the lower garage.

The upper garage is now a store room and wet weather shelter for the workforce.

The workshop picture shows where the staircase will come down, the Myford, the grinder and pillar drill have all had to move. The steel girders will have to be cut through!

In the lower garage, as well as two trikes, I have had to shift a few engines, all my cylinder barrels, dynamos and starter motors as well as a trike body, a double bed and four sets of shelves.

Oh yes! The garage roof has been cleared as well, all the stuff is stuffed down to the far end.

About four tons of stuff has been moved and several loads went to the tip!! We haven't started on the house yet!!

Then the cars were put into plastic bags in the garden!!

Two trikes in one and the Morris in another. Each bag has a load of silica gel (thanks Ebay!!) to try and keep the vehicles dry.

Then the digging started.

The first day's work saw the wall, steps paths and gateway all disappear.    The hole got bigger and deeper, but clay proved elusive. Layers of building rubble were excavated before a sound layer of clay was reached.

The grass soon felt the strain.

Just below the right hand edge of the lounge window is the door sill of the old Glebe House.

The sill of the front door is still visible on the other side of the house.

While we were away a wide area of clay was exposed and the concrete base for the cellar was poured along with the concrete footings for the new hallway wall.

Note the Acrow prop holding the garage up!

The piece of stone dead-centre in this shot is one corner of the old barn.

No it isn't! Took a closer look this morning (Monday 30th). Not yet sure how it might relate to the old barn. The horizontal bit with roots draped over it seems to be part of an old path or suchlike.

Go to the history page.

And the lawn? You should see the paddock! Spoil heaps that would not disgrace a coal mine.

30th October

The first blockwork went in.
